“God’s vocation of teaching” – A devotion for Teacher’s Day – 2015

CLS - ROCKS10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,

(Eph 4:10–12).

In the Name (+) of Jesus. Amen. Ever since the beginning of time, God has given us many vocations. Some are fire fighters, some police officers, some are doctors, lawyers, bakers and so forth. In the Bible we see that God has also given some to be prophets, apostles, evangelists, shepherds (pastors) and teachers.

Even within our vocations we have other vocations as well. Husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, grandparents, friends, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc… It seems that there is not just one thing we do, because people are so much more than that.

In the beginning, we see that God has always given us vocations. In the Garden of Eden, it was the vocation of Adam and Eve to be husband and wife, caretaker and mother, father, etc… Well, since then, the Devil has always had his own club. He calls it the “anti-vocation club”. In it he works tirelessly to tear down that which God calls into being. He wants mothers, fathers, wives husbands, teachers Pastors and all other vocations to be tired and frustrated. To hate what God has generously given.

To this, we answer with the very Word of God. The Savior and good shepherd who loves us, cares for us and has died for us. He is the hope that answers the false charges of the Devil. He is the light in the devil’s darkness of despair. His vocation is to be everything you can’t be, and then He credits it to you.

God grant this for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
